DUCHAMP – Arts Council 1966
In The Green Box, Duchamp presents a collection of ninety-four loose documents that explain some of the ideas that led to his groundbreaking and enigmatic work The Bride Stripped Naked by Her Bachelors, Even (also known as The Large Glass, now in the collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art). These randomly arranged facsimiles of photographs, handwritten notes, diagrams, and sketches contain a series of reflections and meditations, all of which relate directly or indirectly to the idea of chance-one note, for example, equates his 3 Standard Stops with «canned chance.»
