SPRING/SUMMER 2022 -Purple presents The Future, avoiding two obvious scenarios: the optimistic narrative of the 1960s and 1970s – which sought to design the world of tomorrow, based on progress, the space age, the new age – and the dystopian vision of the 1980s, with cyberpunk culture and artificial intelligence. Both visions are two sides of the same illusion: the future will either save us or destroy us. Deeming it impossible to predict, Purple sees the future not as a narrative or a destiny, but simply as something that happens to us. For this issue, the team has chosen creatives and a few artists who truly embody the future: among them, trans philosopher Paul B. Preciado, Jon Rafman on cyberspace and gaming, non-binary artist Eliza Douglas and Balenciaga wonder Demna. All the featured artists and designers are vehicles to the future and encourage us to open ourselves to new possibilities, because the future is now.
